Nawaz highlighted the misuse of social media and traditional media outlets as a key reason for the legislation. The law, she argues, protects individuals from politically motivated attacks on their reputations. However, legitimate criticism with evidence will still be allowed.

The Chief Minister also condemned the misuse of religious pronouncements (fatwas). She provided examples of a woman falsely accused and a man promoting harmful views on girls’ education. Nawaz emphasized that religion shouldn’t shield criminals, and called for authorities to work together to address the rising concerns about religious desecration.

She praised the police for preventing a similar tragedy to the Jaranwala riots, where a Christian family was attacked by a mob. Nawaz concluded by highlighting the blocking of over 50,000 harmful social media accounts.

She cited an example from May, where a Christian family in Sargodha was saved from a mob, preventing further loss of life as seen in the Jaranwala riots.
